Professional Basketball Finally Returns To Seattle With TBL’s Expansion Seattle Super Hawks
The Super Hawks take the court in 2023 led by former CBA and NBA guard Eldridge Recasner as head coach
The wait is over.
For the first time since the end of the 2007-2008 NBA season, men’s professional basketball is finally returning to Seattle, Washington with the expansion Seattle Super Hawks of The Basketball League, the league announced.
The return also marks a historic moment for TBL as Team Market Owner Jaqueline Yang becomes the first female of Asian descent to own a male professional basketball team in North America. Tacoma native and current University of Pacific guard, Pierre Crockrell Jr., will serve as General Manager, along with former CBA and NBA player Eldridge Recasner being named head coach of the Super Hawks. In addition to Crockrell and Recasner, long-time Seattle businessman JR Harris will be tasked with Vice President duties for the expansion organization set to take the court for the 2023 TBL season.
“Owning a professional basketball team has been a passion of mine for many years,” said Jaqueline Yang via press release from the league.
“I love the vision of this league because it stems from the view of a woman whose mission is to impact the community first and build out from there by supporting our wonderful local talent. Seattle is primed for this and we are excited to be filling the void.”
The Super Hawks become the second TBL team in the state of Washington, joining the Vancouver Volcanoes in a talented West Conference that includes teams in Salem, San Diego, and Bakersfield.
“This is very big news for TBL, Jaqueline has assembled a wonderful executive team to support the market. Seattle is a unique market because there is a thriving culture of pros being developed there and geographically it not only compliments current teams but opens us up for all the contiguous communities like Everett, Bellevue, Tacoma as well as the many great markets in the eastern part of the state like Yakima, Spokane and Tri-Cities,” said TBL CEO, Evelyn Magley
Paying homage to the Supersonics and the rich history of basketball in the city of Seattle, the Seattle Super Hawks will don green, yellow, and white as their team colors.
